What is Ketamine Therapy?

Ketamine is a medication that has been used for many years as an anesthetic in hospitals. However, recent research has shown that ketamine can also be beneficial in treating mental health disorders, such as depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Ketamine works in a unique way by affecting certain chemicals in the brain. It increases the levels of a neurotransmitter called glutamate, which helps to promote the growth and connectivity of brain cells. This can lead to positive changes in mood, thinking, and overall mental well-being.

One of the remarkable things about ketamine is its rapid action. Unlike traditional antidepressant medications that may take weeks to show results, ketamine can start working within hours or a few days. This quick response can provide relief to individuals who are struggling with severe or treatment-resistant symptoms.

At our ketamine therapy practice, we offer a safe and controlled environment for ketamine treatment. Our team of qualified medical professionals will carefully assess your condition and guide you through the process. We prioritize your well-being and strive to provide a supportive and compassionate space for your mental health journey.

Please note that ketamine therapy is not a one-size-fits-all approach, and its use is determined on a case-by-case basis. We encourage you to consult with our experts to determine if ketamine therapy is right for you.

We are committed to helping you find relief and regain control of your mental health. Contact us today to learn more about ketamine therapy and how it can make a positive difference in your life.

KAP

KAP, or “ketamine assisted psychotherapy” is a type of psychotherapy that can be offered during your sessions by one of our experienced, contracted therapists. They typically offer this virtually to help guide you and talk about what is coming up for you during your sessions. KAP typically involves a new patient consult, intra-treatment sessions, and post treatment integration sessions.

KAP cost varies based on the provider, and is separate from the ketamine program cost.

Important things to note before starting ketamine therapy with us:

  • You must be seeing a therapist on a weekly or bi-weekly basis during your treatments. If you do not have a therapist, you may work with one of our contracted therapists. This is not covered by us, and may result in additional wait time to start treatment. We will request your authorization to speak with and coordinate with your mental health provider during the course of your treatments.

  • If you do your treatment sessions in clinic, you must have a driver to take you home.

  • If you are doing the at home series, you must have a sitter with you every time and be able to respond in a timely matter to our follow up messages and calls.

  • The consult with our medical director is included in the treatment program cost. However, you will be asked to add a card on file and charged for the consult at the time it is scheduled, and it will be deducted from the program cost that is charged once the consult is completed. This consult fee is non-refundable once the consult has been completed, even if you choose not to move forward with the treatments, as this is considered a medical appointment.

  • We do not accept insurance at this time. We do however provide superbills upon request if you would like to submit your treatments to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. We also offering financing via Care Credit.

  • If you are considering Spravato which may be covered by insurance, please note- It must be done in office and you have to have a driver afterwards. It also requires a prior authorization from insurance with documented proof of treatment resistant depression from your other mental health providers. The prior authorization + appeals/denials process can take weeks to months.

We are proud to offer first responders, healthcare workers, active duty military members, and veterans 10% off their treatments. Thank you for all you do.

FAQs

Is this safe?

Yes! Under the care of experienced professionals, ketamine therapy is very safe as your mental health and vital signs will be monitored while you are in a comfortable, controlled, environment, whether it be in clinic or at home.

What can I expect?

For your first treatment in clinic, we will welcome you and have you take a seat in one of our heated, massage recliner chairs and you will be provided with plush throws, weighted blankets, and an eye mask for comfort. We will go over expectations and how you are feeling. We will then have you take the medication, whether that is an oral dissolving tablet, nasal spray, or intramuscular injection, and you will kick back and relax for about an hour and a half!

What if I can’t afford ketamine therapy?

We totally understand and have been there ourselves while undergoing treatment. That’s why we partnered with Care Credit to provide you with interest free payment plans to help create a payment schedule that works for you. Our ongoing maintenance program is also very affordable, and we do offer a 10% discount to veterans and active duty military members, first line responders, and healthcare workers.

What does ketamine therapy feel like?

You may feel as if you are floating away from your body, and feel very light. You may experience increased interconnectedness with your surroundings and feel an instant relief from physical and mental pain. Some patients experience a euphoric state throughout and after the treatment. Our goal is to get you to a point of dissociation so that you are able to easily access your subconscious thoughts and patterns to work through them, which is the key to alleviating depression, anxiety, and trauma.

Are there any side effects?

Some people may experience nausea, and in this case we provide a variety of medications to help with nausea, and ginger chews for your comfort throughout your treatment. This is usually temporary and resides after the treatment is over.

Can I drive afterwards?

We ask that you do not drive for the rest of the day after your treatment. You will need a driver to take you home. Your guest may come inside the clinic treatment room with you if you desire.
